A mother of a 3 month old (11lbs 9 oz.)  called me asking if it was okay to
take Bentyl while breastfeeding.  She has a spastic colon. I searched the
archives and an older Hale book, but am unable to find this specific drug.
She is also taking Ibuprofen for Thyroiditis, 400mg every 4 hours during the
day.  She has taken thyroid medicine since she was in her teens and has been
on Levothyroxine 0.2mg every day since the last trimester of her pregnancy.
Her family doctor knows of her enlarged thyroid and did not order labs of
adjust her thyroid med.  She believes her thyroid med may be too high and that
it may also have caused her colon to act up.  She has had diarrhea with blood
in her stools.  Her OB just finally is taking matters into his own hands and
ordering a consult with an internist.  She has no insurance.  Anyway, is
Bentyl okay?
