Australian research on melanomas discussed this week in the newspapers
criticises the recommendation to use sunshine on vulnerable newborn babies
when, for the rest of their lives, they will be discouraged from being
exposed to the sun. Not much detail, but I'm following up. I have a
personal interest too as I had a large malignant basal cell carcinoma
removed recently, but also have a bronzed son who experienced significant
amounts of phototherapy for 'breastmilk jaundice' 20 years ago, when the
additional recommendation from nursing staff was to put him out in the sun
(we live in the tropics).
