I have several tales book in my house, but haven't read them all from
cover to cover. Last week my partner was reading for our kids the
following surprising tale (I give a short summary):

The Young Giant

A farmer couple had a son, as big as a thumb. One day the son said to
his father: take me to the field father. And the father said: no you're
too small. But Little Thumb begged him to take him and so did the
father.

A giant came along and took the little boy with him. At home he put him
to his breast and nursed him for 2 years. Little Thumb grew and grew and
became very strong. Then the giant took the boy to the forest and asked
him to pull out a tree. And the boy did so, but the giant found he
wasn't strong enough. So he took him home, put him to the breast and
nursed him for another 2 years.

again he took him to the forest, asked him to pull out a tree and again
the giant wasn't satisfied.

He took him home again and nursed him another 2 years.

then finally he found the young man strong enough.

The young man went home to his parents but his parents were scared of
him and he ate too much. So he left the house and travelled through the
country. everywhere he worked, he asked no earning, but asked if he
could slap the boss in return for his working. And everywhere people
were very scared of him. At the end the young giant is walking again,
looking for another workplace.

I'm wondering if the tale expresses a fear of wetnurses and also enviews
the consequences of the detachment people experience: no bonding with
the parents anymore, an uncertain place in the world.
