I don't know how you originally tried to contact LLL, but they have a
toll-free number, 1-800-LA LECHE (unless they have recently d/c'd it).
If a local group leader can't do the teaching, a "Leader Reserve" or "No
Group Affiliation" (NGA) leader may have more time to help out. There is
nothing in leader responsibilities that prohibits such a type of talk (as
I understand it), although a leader should check with her District
Adviser for approval. Also, what we discuss and present on Lactnet, or
through other channels may be less restricted than LLL information. By
that, I mean LLL leaders are limited to providing the info from approved
LLL resources, and are also limited in scope to information that is not
as technical that an IBCLC might be able to add to. Nonetheless, I think
the idea of an LLL leader for the childbirth class is terrific, if only
to let the families know about this invaluable resource in the community.
Lee-Ann, RN, BSN, IBCLC, and LLL leader of 9 years!
