Having attended the Epidural Symposium in Washington DC last February at
which many of the well-known experts/researchers presented, I am looking
forward to hearing Lewis Mehl-Madrona speak here about epidurals in August.
One statistic quoted by him is: "between 1 & 6 women (depending on what
percent of epidurals become spinals) per 100,000 epidurals are paralyzed
permanently or die as a result of epidurals".
More case study presentations by practising lactation consultants will
hopefully heighten interest in research on the effects of epidurals on
early establishment of breastfeeding and bonding issues.
