Maurenne Griese's recent post on Letitia Baldrige's negative statements
regarding breastfeeding in the work place reminded me of a news clip in the
St. Paul Pioneer press a couple of days ago. It stated that a bill was to
be introduced Monday in the MN Senate, giving moms the right to a place for
pumping milk at work. It would require employers to provide a "sanitary and
private place for women to take breaks to express their milk". The article
was very well written and cited AAP recommendations and studies that show
higher IQs and less illness amoung breastfed babies. Also made the
statement that many women stop nursing because they need to return to work
and there is no place to express. I find it quite promising that
breastfeeding is getting more and more press coverage lately. I feel quite
encouraged, especially when I hear from 2 of my moms (on the same day) that
their employers have established a place for them to pump their milk.
