I agree (as usual) with Dr. Jack Newman. We were taught in medical school to
treat the patient, not the laboratory, and not to order tests unless we really
needed the results to help diagnose the patients' problem. The name of the
game was to make the diagnosis on the basis of history and physical exam, with
as few lab tests as possible. It has been good training.
(I went to the Medical College of Pennsylvania, now merged into the Allegheny
system in Philadelphia, MD in 1974.)
So, Dr. Jack, some of us were actually listening!
