Hi everyone
On Christmas eve I got a call from a mother who I saw back in
October, and it made my day.
She came to see me with a 2 week old who was bottle feeding ebm and
was tongue-tied (baby just couldn't latch on, and mother's nipples
were a mess). After we discussed the problem, I clipped the tongue
tie - my first time doing this, and baby had a try at the breast.
Mother felt he sucked much better, but he still had lots of problems
latching, and seemed nipple confused.
The mother continued to pump, offer the breast and bottle feed, and
at the age of 13 weeks, he latched on and fed like a champ (after
weeks of fiddling around and refusing to feed well). He is now
completely breast fed, and mother is over the moon.
She is very pleased that the tongue tie was clipped, and I am so
happy that the effort that she has put in to pumping for 13 weeks has
payed off. Now she wants to know what to do with the freezer full of
extra milk!! - there is no milk bank here unfortunately.

Fiona
