Sorry, what I had started to say when I was interupted by others using
the 'puter,  was
In the Premature Baby Book Helen Harrison found it awkward to switch he
and she pronuns so
she settled on masculine. Explaining "Since nature discriminates so
harshly against premature boys (more of them die and more of the
survivors have problems), readers may regard the use of the masculine
pronoun as a small attempt at compensatiion."
  On a lighter note my husband was teaching science to a group of
adolescent boys. He tossed out the question how long did they think adult
humans could survive without food or water. After considerable
deliberation they answered solemnly, "Women could survive three days but
men could only survive one day."
