Hi All,
The thread on the day care center refusing the breastfed baby
brought a bit of laughter to me, you see when I went for the first check
up (two week) with #4 in 1986 in TX, the hospital well baby clinic
refused breastfeeding in the clinic. I guess they expected you to use a
bottle (talk about undermining breastfeeding) and the day care center I
used there when he was 6 months old (when we were packing and moving)
and then in Germany, had no problem with breastmilk. I guess the saying
that no matter how much things change, they really stay the same!
I agree a bit that tobacco is subtly inferred into programs, however
Dr. Greene's use of tobacco is quite normal given the situation. I use
to be a light smoker who had no problem quitting and quit for good after
a tooth extraction with no problem what so ever. However in 1996 when my
daughter called me after having a car accident near the house (it's true
most accidents happen within 25 miles of home). And I got to the area,
saw the back up and her car up against a telephone pole, after I ran (I
had to park away from the site) up and asked the first person for a cig
(I was shaking so bad and my heart was beating out of my chest). When I
asked her if she hit the pole, she said no, that car and pointed down
the road a way to a car sitting totaled on it's roof, I was a goner. By
the time, cars were towed, police report taken and we were finished at
the hospital, I was back into it big time. This time has been the
hardest to shake. I have tried several times and always sneak my way
back up to being a smoker, although I have noticed that the offending
moments are coming closer and closer together so I might finally get
there soon.
When we feel powerless and out of control, we reach out either for
someone to help us or a crutch to 'support' us - many people who have
their act together chose a crutch they know they can beat, I know I can
quit smoking easily it is just reaching that 'enough' point. I'd rather
see the tobacco (despite it's implications) than the good Dr. start
drinking or sneaking drugs.
