I am doing some research and I would appreciate hearing from LC's and MD's
who have had clinical experience with breastfeeding mothers whose lactation
was impaired by primary hypothyroidism or Hashimoto's thyroiditis. I am
interested in learning the following:

1) Did the mother have this condition before becoming pregnant?
2) Was she on thyroid hormone replacement therapy during her pregnancy?
3) If the mother's condition was undetected until after her baby's
birth, did she present with clear-cut symptoms that led to a diagnosis,
or were the symptoms vague and easily confused with normal postpartum
symptomology?
4) After she gave birth, when did her milk "come in"? Was it delayed?
5) Did she experience any of the normal hallmarks of early lactation?
6) How quickly did it become apparent that her milk supply was
inadequate and how soon was the diagnosis made and treatment initiated for
her hypothyroidism? (If she was already under treatment for the
condition, how long was it before her levels were tested and her
medication adjusted?)
7) After treatment was initiated, did her milk supply respond
accordingly? How long did it take?
8) Was the mother able to eventually breastfeed her baby without
supplementation?
9) Who did the mother see for treatment of her condition? (OB/GYN,
family practice, internist, endocrinologist, etc.)
10) How frequently was the mother monitored for her condition after
treatment began? Did she need to adjust her dosage periodically?
11) What were the mother's feelings about her breastfeeding experience?

Please include anything else that you feel is pertinent! And a big
*thank you* in advance for your help.
