I got a great laugh from Anne's post describing her baby's spitting up and
her dog licking it up. My oldest was a champion spitter, and our dog loved
it. We would walk around the house, with a burp cloth over the shoulder, the
baby over the burp cloth, and the dog following us to slurp what the cloth
didn't catch. I thought everyone who had a baby had to have a burp cloth. She
had no trouble gaining, (17lbs at 4 months) though, and I attributed her
spitting partially to my massive supply. She was always eating, and I figured
she was just spitting up what she didn't need. She was, and still is, pretty
low toned, like me, and we are all cow milk sensitive. We also have at least
four generations of reflux (that we know about) in my family, including me,
this daughter, and my son. Is there a relationship between low tone, cow milk
allergy and reflux? Isn't the pyloric valve under autonomic nervous system
control? or would it also have the same quality of muscle tone as in the
musculoskeletal system? And what exactly is the relationship between food
alergy and reflux? is it just an irritation of the digestive system? or
wouldn't the stomach have a stronger chemical defense? Just some questions I
have been wondering as I battle my reflux.
