Six months ago, in a flurry of e-mails, we helped an Australian mother
living in a remote part of Spain to successfully breastfeed. The obstacles
put in her way were stunning, and the paediatrician was curious about our
advice to comp *after* breastfeeding (if necessary) rather than *before*
breastfeeding as he suggested. However, it is to be hoped that he learnt
something from this mother and baby, probably the only one of his patients
to successfully breastfeed.

Recently she took the baby for his 6-mth immunisation and then immediately
put him to the breast because he was crying, while she talked to the clinic
nurse. She got a lecture on spoiling him!

When the Norwegian BF video came out in Spanish we told her about it and
she bought a copy. She showed it to the local hospital and suggested they
get one too. They declined, and said the title of the video is against
their philosophy. "Breast is best".

A long way to go!
