As I scanned recent postings I recall seeing something about babies having
trouble with their latches when the palate doesn't fit the norm A baby i
am working with has a very high and narrow palate. He got accustomed to
the nipple shield in the hospital (offered for no good reason and much too
soon - and that was only one of the iatrogenically caused problems), and
now falls off or removes himself from the breast. he prefers the shield,
but purses his lips and has caused his mama some problems. He is also
still somewhat yellow at 5 weeks.
My question: is there a preferred position for this kind of palate that
will help him learn to open wide and stay on? (I will spare you the
details of the story!)
Thanks alot!
