Mira: I've had two "active" babies who crawled very early and walked
before a year (one at 10 months and one at 11.5 mo). Both of my kids
started the rolling over bit at 4-6 weeks as a method of locomotion.
Essentially, we created a big crib out of our bed with those snap on guard
rails you can buy for toddler and youth beds. Mostly we only needed to
worry about the bottom because our headboard is attached and has built in
book cubbies. My husband and I sleep on either side of the baby and then
the rail goes at the bottom. When my husband is gone, I put up another
rail and pad it with a barrier of pillows. My older son calls this our
family "nest" and tries cajole his way in whenever possible. It's sounds a
lot more complicated than it is. Others I know have simply moved their
beds to the floor or created a wall-to-wall bed. Some families use futons
on the floor. 'Hope this helps.
