My 4.2 kg baby doubled his birthweight by about 3 months and then
plateaued (which I now know is normal). The wise ones did their
sums on milk production and calories and scientifically told me that
I could not possibly make enough milk to meet his needs. Told me to
introduce solids. When I got home the logic struck me. How did he
get to be so big on breastmilk alone if my milk production was so
inadequate? I delayed solids until he showed he was ready at about 9
months - meanwhile he was still fat and healthy on my supposedly
inadequate supply.
I wish all mothers knew to doubt shonky advice.
