Chris,

My only information on this is personal and I'm not sure how helpful. I
experienced two miscarriages, followed by two live births, followed by a
blighted ovum. I was diagnosed with a transient luteal phase defect
after the blighted ovum. My options were wean and it may resolve, wean
and go the infertility med. route, or just do nothing and see what
happens (recommended). I chose the last route and actually conceived the
day of that appointment. I immediately began progesterone treatments
which lasted throughout the first trimester. My then 28 month old weaned
on her own late in the first trimester.

Then, as with the blighted ovum (for several weeks we did not know it was
a blighted ovum, just a "threatened miscarriage"), my husband and I had
to make a decision about what was in the best interests of our family
unit. We decided that our obligations lied with the child that was here
with us, not with the unborn child, who could possibly not make it
anyway. At no time in either of these situations, did my ob suggest
weaning. To the contrary when I questioned him prior to the last
pregnancy what would happen if I became pregnant, he said that I would be
put on progesterone and continue breastfeeding.

This mom needs to be given whatever information is available and left to
make her decision without outside influence. Her and her family are who
must suffer or rejoice in the consequences, regardless of her
decision....not her infertility specialist.
