Since the first Nestle boycott, Nestle has been trying to polish its
image. This includes getting on government task forces dealing with
children, and funding all sorts of projects dealing with children,
including juvenile diabetes. They have done a very nice pr job. But
their unethical practices continue. Nestle brought direct mailings of
formula and formula company information to Canada. Now women are
swamped with free formula during the prenatal period. Even the
Canadian Pediatric Society collaborates (word chosen carefully) with
formula companies to make sure they get samples.
Nestle's can and should give money to research diabetes--God knows
it's not a gift, but rather blood money. But they should not be
promoting their formulas or bottle feeding (WHO code).
