Hello - I'm a LLL Leader with a mother of a 3 month old -
she has mitral valve prolapse, and
she's to have dental work and has been told to take 3 grams of
amoxicillin 1 hour before the dental appointment, then
1 and a half grams, 1 hour after the dental appointment. I
have checked and amoxicillin is on the list of medications
usually compatible with breastfeeding, (in our Breastfeeding
Answer Book) but she is
concerned because she says this is quite a high dose.
Does anyone have information on taking a high dose of
amoxicillin, and breastfeeding? (I asked a local
pharmacist tonight, and he read that possible risks
in the infant include diarrhea, sensitization for allergies,
and candidiasis - he also made the flip comment that if
she'd just use a can of formula 'everybody's problem would
be solved'...sigh...) It kind of reminded me why I do what I
do.
TIA
