The Myths of Motherhood: How Culture Reinvents the Good Mother by Shari L.
Thurer, Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston & NY, 1994. The bib is 27 (!)
pages long and yes, Elizabeth Badinter's book Mother Love: Myth & Reality;
Motherhood in Modern History is in the bib.
Book is a very good read. One thing it shows is that all through history
some mothers have always abandoned their babies, whether to exposure or wet
nurses. Today it is done with abortion and ABM. "Nothing new under the
sun." Thurer would probably make a very interesting speaker at ILCA conv.
Sincerely, Pat Young in southern NJ, who has a HA from being over-OJayed.
