My magazines come in much later than yours, but didn't see this discussed, so
I'm posing this question:

Just read the Memo to Members by the President of Consumers Union, Rhoda H.
Karpatkin. In it she speaks with great ferver about the tobacco companies
"generous campaign contributions, effective lobbying, sophisticated public
relations to keep their products on the market and to make sure that a steady
flow of newly addicted youngsters replaces smokers who have quit or died."

She speaks of repeated consumer reports throughout 40 years of activism to get
to where they are today - but streeses that they must maintain vigilance.

She concludes that "Parents, schools, communityues and other elements of our
society must join together to help our children resist the blandishments of the
tobacco companies."

When is CU going to address the formula companies? What has made them such an
untouchable group?
