Just wanted to add a little vent.

I recently received a call from a mom wanting to rent a breast pump (I only have
pumps for sale) and got into a talk about her concerns.  She felt she didn't
have enough milk as her baby was not gaining (had stopped losing weight, but was
now at a plataue).  She had just gotten a copy of The Nursing Mother's Companion
and realized that she wasn't feeding the baby enough (only every 4 hours during
the day and not at all at night since baby seemed to sleep alot).  She was
trying to avoid supplementing and wanted to increase her supply, but one problem
(that had me grinding my teeth) was that her baby had thrush and her doctor was
refusing to treat it until the baby started gaining some weight.  How could he
not treat this poor baby, I mean if the baby had thrush and probably also a sore
mouth and didn't really want to nurse, how could not treating make the baby
gain?  Well the mom had already decided to go to a different ped. and get the
baby treated (especailly since the book meantioned treatment).  She was also
nursing more frequently.  I just can't believe what some doctors tell people.
