I am running a support group for moms of newborns at my hospital's
maternity unit. One of the moms in my group is so excited about
breastfeeding that she wants to become a lactation consultant. She
has gotten a job with one of the companies that makes breast pumps
and has had chances to help moms, but she feels she needs to
learn more to be of any use to the moms she sees. She is
not a nurse. Does anyone know of a class she can take to learn the
basics of helping a mom breast feed? Perhaps a certification course for
breast feeding educator or some such thing...then she could begin
keeping track of the hours she has worked and attempt to become
a lactation consultant somewhere down the road. We are in central
New Jersey, USA.

Thanks so much for your help, please answer via private email so as not
to take up anyone's time on this great listserv.
