Tonight I received a call from a mom of a 6 mo old whose Her doctor told
her it was time to wean due to persistent mastitis. Apparently, things
began for her in April when her son bit her causing a cracking of her right
nipple thus followed the first bout. She has been using moist heat, massage,
good emptying using a lactina if her son doesn't nurse or if she feels he
didn't adequately empty the affected breast. She just began taking
acidophilus and lecithin. This is the info she gave me-
On 4-18 Rt breast mastitis, on Dicloxicillin for two days then switched
(due to nausea) to Keflex on 4-20 for 10 days
5-8 Rt breast same location again, given Erythromycin for 10 days
7-19 Rt breast same location again, given Erythromycin (nauseous again)
switched to Keflix on 7-22
7-26 Left breast on Keflix, thus far unresponsive to the med
I suggested a consultation to evaluate further and obtain more of a history,I
admit, the total picture can be sketchy as it is presented however, just
looking at her hx. and the info above, are any of you familiar with
situations such as I'm describing???
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
