I am sorry to post here but nowhere in the world can I find the knowledge
here on Lactnet.
I really need some help on this. My aunt just had a baby and there are some
real problems. It started with a illness that was described as a flu. She
had a very upset stomach and felt as if something was wrong. Her doctor said
they had no appointments and she would have to wait till tomorrow. She began
to feel worse and called the doctor and said she was coming in if they had an
appointment or not. She was taken to another hospital and upon exam they
said they weren’t equipped to handle this and took her by ambulance to
another hospital. The baby was born C-Section. and the baby was taken away
immediately.

We have not been allowed to see the baby except through pictures. They say
if she makes it through the next 72 hours she may have a chance. Only
immediate family is allowed in. They believe the baby has a combination of
viruses. The hardest thing to believe is they never asked anyone to scrub
before coming in and touching her. The baby is on 12 different machines and
has fluid around her heart in her lungs and under her skin. They tried to
drain some of the fluid and punctured her lung. They are tube feeding
formula because my aunt is so upset they have her heavily sedated.

I know this baby needs breast milk especially with so many problems.
However, the mother is not in the position to do so. This is my family and
I want to help in anyway I can. My son is 15 months old and I would be more
than happy to pump for the baby. I guess I just need some advice. I am not
IBCLC and I tried to call the hospital to talk with an LC but they are all
gone for the day. Sometimes when your so close to the situation it is hard
to think clear. Any suggestions would be great.
