I first heard this old saw from my mother-in-law in 1970 when my firstborn
was 11 days old. She didn't breastfeed, and over 2 days told me both parts -
too rich, which is why he pooped so much; and too thin which is why he fed so
often. Heard it again at a well-baby check when my second child was 6 months
old - was told my milk was too rich, which is why the baby was above the
90%ile for height and weight. (my husband is 6'3"). Same nurse told my best
friend that her milk was too thin because her son was at the 10%ile in height
and weight. (her family is short). Heard it again when my third child was a
fat but short 9-month old (I'm short and fat too). Nonsense then, and
nonsense now. Galactophobia takes many forms, and this is a common disguise.

Linda Smith, wondering if men's white fluid is subject to as many critics as
womens'.
