Lesley: Sorry this took a while, but I had to do some digging through my
files. Syntocinon was discussed a few times last year. I'll give the
dates for the archives, but I'll also summarize what was posted. Now
that there are 800+ of us, and maybe many who could use the discontinued
product to help their clients, perhaps Sandoz will be hearing from lots
of discontented people and may change their policy.
On May 23, Joan Fisher posted about the use of pitocin in 1 unit/ml vials
and the use of TB syringes to draw it up and squirt into the nose, but
the post was not very specific as to the amount per dose.
On May 31, Anne Norton-Krawciw posted about the fact that syntocinon had
been discontinued only 6 months after Sandoz acquired Gerber in May 1994,
and provided the address for Sandoz so those who felt inclined could
voice their opinion: Sandoz Pharmaceuticals, 59 Route 10, East Hanover,
NJ 07936-1080. (201)503-7500. Fax (201)503-8265. Medical
representative was Dr. Resnick at (201)503-6105.
On Nov 29, there was a post ( I don't recall by whom) referring to Dr.
Shirley Gross and her piece in ILCA Globe, Aug 1995, describing how
pharmacists can obtain syntocinon powder to make into a nasal spray. The
pharmacist can contact the Professional Compounding Centers of America,
10925 Kinghurst, Suite 520, Houston, Texas 77099. (800)331-2498 (USA and
Canada).
Hope this helps and happy letter-writing to all. Alicia. [log in to unmask]
