My son was diagnosed as having at 2 weeks. At the time we were told to feed
him "that stuff" for 24 hours to reassure the ped that it was only benign
Breastmilk Jaundice and not some bigger liver problem. We were told this was
a brief break for diagnostic purposes only. His level dropped from about
19.8 to 15 overnight. My ped (whose Bfed son had had a bili of 22) was happy
that the testing confirmed that there was no problem. I have since read what
Dr. Gartner's research says about Breastmilk Jaundice and under the same
conditions would not take the 24 hour break.
