Hi Lactnetters!
I have a mom with a 14 month old baby. I counseled her a LOT
last winter when she had all over breast pain. We went through
the easy stuff--thrush, plugged ducts, etc. and got nowhere to
explain the pain. Then she happened to mention that it was worse
when she was out in the cold or had a breeze on the breast in any
way. The only thing I could come up with was Reynaud's and sure
enough as the weather warmed the pain seemed to lessen. We have
had an extremely warm (for here, where Lake Erie seems to keep us
from baking in the summer) last 6 weeks and now the mom is telling
me that when she's in the car with the air conditioning on or in
their bedroom (which has a new air conditioner) her breasts are
hurting again. Has anyone had any experience with this? Is
there anything to do to lessen the pain? Is the mom for real?
I did refer her to a doctor in the area who I call the "breast
man" because he has been helpful in other cases and he supports
continuing bf'ing while he tries to solve the problem. He could
not find anything wrong with the breasts (this was early, early
spring) and when I said something about Reynaud's he pooh-poohed
the idea. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.
