Linda,

Check out the article by Jackie Glover in the June issue of the JHL for a
good algorithm about when to supplement. Jackie, take a bow. It is great,
and gives good guidelines....

Everyone,

Part of the problem with the misinformation that continues to be handed on to
mother after mother is that the printed material seldom keeps pace with the
change in information. If each LC, and I'm thinking specifically of those
working in hospitals, clinics, or physician offices would develop a brief
handout that does away with some of the myths (i.e. bf both br each feed for
x number of minutes to "empty" the breast) the mom would have it in writing,
and it would be fairly simple to change. I'm not talking about doing an
entire booklet, but something quick & easy for these basic questions that are
not gotten to yet in most of the books. Remember the amnesia principle, and
that most of what we tell the mom after delivery she won't remember....

I suggest a one page handout printed on bright paper (but not neon pink if
you are giving it to Kathy A. :) )

Jan B.
