Some time ago, the GLOBE mentioned vanilla-flavored pacifiers being
deistributed by one of the commercial baby milk companies (A-R with
headquarters in northern ILllinois). I did not see any in my area.

Well, they are HEEEERRRREEEE! (northern Illinois)  Yesterday I saw a mother
and baby (6 weeks old) who for a variety of reasons (including nurses,
mother called them the lactation nurses, who pushed baby's head into the
breast and held it there to get him to latch on and only succeeding in
making him think he was suffocating!) now refuses to go to breast.
Attached to his baby seat was a funny-looking pacifier, very thick and
looked just like an excess, large rubber ring was melted into a regular
rubber bottle teat.  The mother said, "He loves it; it smells like
vanilla.!"  She got it in her local (Beecher, IL) pharmacy.  I suspect this
is one of the reasons baby does not associate breast with food insofar as
he gets vanilla flavoring for sucking for pleasure and that awful taste of
formula when fed by bottle.  Neither resembles breast or breastmilk.

You may wan to check carefully re: availability/distribution of these
pacifiers in your areas.  Consider this a warning.
