Susan,
Sometimes the piston-style sucking persists for awhile after frenotomy,
encourage mom to be patient and persistent with getting a good latch.  Suck
training (GENTLY, GENTLY, if baby is willing to have anything in her mouth
after the surgery)can sometimes be helpful.  If not, mom and dad can model
tongue extension by sticking out their tongues when baby is in quiet alert
state to encourage baby to experiment with her now free tongue.
