Greetings All,

Am sharing this important new study on the critical aspect of food security in infancy and toddlerhood, although I do not see mention in the abstract of breastfeeding (I could not find full text but would be grateful if anyone can provide a link to full text). In this study, Georgetown University (USA) researchers who looked at infants and toddlers at ages 9 months of age, about 2 years of age, and about 4 years of age in regard to food insecurity at these ages and cognitive outcomes. From the ScienceDaily news release:

"Timing of food insecurity matters," notes Anna Johnson, assistant professor of psychology at Georgetown University, who led the research. "In our study, food insecurity in infancy and toddlerhood predicted lower cognitive and social-emotional skills in kindergarten, skills that can predict later success in academics and life." Food insecurity during the preschool years was less consistently related to performance in kindergarten, Johnston adds, but when it was, associations were also negative.
