Dear Lactnet Friends:

http://www.cochrane.org/CD011027/NEONATAL_oral-dextrose-gel-treatment-newborn-infants-low-blood-glucose-levels

Folks say that hand expression doesn't always work. Then it turns out that
they aren't helping a mother to feel relaxed and move her into
parasympathetic mode, a pre-requisite for moving milk forward in the breast.

Best is baby skin to skin, but if that isn't possible, then warm
compresses, and breast massage (10 minutes) before expressing.

Interesting to learn that the gel doesn't always work!

warmly,
