"Pulling back" behavior in a newborn always reminds me of how a calf will tug on its mother's teat to trigger her letdown.
I've also seen infants pull back from a deep latch if mother's nipples are long.

The larger the bottle, the higher the weight of the child (not height, just weight). So, keep that in mind when people ask about bottle recommendations. http://www.foxnews.com/health/2016/06/07/bigger-baby-bottles-linked-to-weight-gain.html

I think with the particular mother and baby that I'm thinking off, the baby was doing it to stimulate let-down. This mother has breast hypoplasia, and I wonder if pulling back is a sign to switch sides.
