In Response to Pamela, Pat, and Jean.and all the seasoned IBCLCs:

I took the first exam given (1985) and still remember how nervous I was.
Those feelings were the same in '96 and 2006, so I am not looking forward to
taking the exam in 2016 (when I will be close to 76 years young - :)).  If
we recertify every 5 years, sometimes by accumulating enough CERPs, it means
we are keeping up with the education available regarding breastfeeding.  I
would love to have emeritus status from now on and still meet the CERPs
requirement, which means I am up-to-date with new information.  Maybe IBLCE
needs the funds from exam takers to keep up the organization's work; I would
be willing to pay extra for the emeritus status.  Also, some of my IBCLC
colleagues have failed the exam the third time because they are phobic about
taking the exam via the computer and some make a lot of mistakes because of
that.  If there are any IBLCE people reading this on LACTNET, I would like
to have you chime in on this discussion and let us know if this might be
possible.

Oh yes, Pat and Jean.  Having sat the first time in 1990 and because of a
little glitch with not being able to get CERPS in 1995, I'm due to take the
exam for the fourth time next year.  I'm effectively retired as far as
income is concerned, but welcome unpaid work because I still love it.  But
I'm thinking about my options - shall I, shan't I go for the exam one more
time??  Emeritus status after 25 years would be very welcome :-)
