I was just reading an article in the LA Times this morning about this. A
small dairy farm (not in California, but a close state) just had a state of
the art processing plant built to powder the milk to be sent to China. They
are afraid the push for 'California Milk' around our state (plus the push in
the US for local food) they will have a harder time getting their milk
processed. The whole article was what a great business boost this was for
the area small diary famers. The article stated that breastfeeding was
'unpopular' in China and after the melanamie scandal with the deaths and
injuries the Chinese people don't want local formula or milk for their
children, plus they just had an issue in China with heavy metals in the milk
from the cows. So they want other countries milk instead.

It was making it sound like 'what a great thing to be happening' instead of
how I was reading it. Very sad that after that formula scandal there was no
big push to help more mother's breastfeed, just a bigger distrust of their
local food. I have read other newspaper articles of other issues with their
food supply with contamination & adulteration. So they don't try to make
their food supply safer or encourage breastfeeding, they just import.

Okay enough of a rant!
