When I read this the first thing that popped into my mind was childhood cancer. It would seem the longer a child received breastmilk the lower the risk of childhood cancer would be. I couldn't find any studies that were done on children nursing longer than 1 year. The best link I found was for the infant risk center. http://www.infantrisk.com/content/breastfeeding-may-protect-infants-against-cancers
You may want to email Dr. Hale and see if he would know if there was any research done over 1 year.

Although I did find this article and was shaking my head as I was reading it. http://www.pollutionaction.org/breastfeeding-and-autism-and-cancer.htm
