 Hi everyone,

Many of you received a phishing email from my email account yesterday with
"IMPORTANT DOCUMENT FROM GOOGLE" in the subject line.

When I first realized what had happened, I tried to email my contacts and
alert them, but unfortunately the hack program that sends the phishing
email had erased my contacts list, completely erased the sent email from my
account and set my email account to send almost all incoming emails to my
trash folder. The program also set automatic responses, so some of you who
replied and asked if the link was legitimate received an automatic response
saying that it was and signed by just my first name.

Thankfully most of you did not click the link and enter your email address
and password.

Unfortunately some of you did enter your information.

If you entered your information, please immediately change your email
password and add extra security if your email provider allows for that. You
might also want to email all of your contacts and alert them to the scam
email that asks them to open a google doc that doesn't exist. And you can
also backup your contacts list so that you won't lose your contacts if your
email account is hacked.

Some information I learned online about this phishing scam is that there
are multiple versions of it and they look a bit different but they all ask
you to click a link for a google document. The one I foolishly replied to
that got me into this mess used a standard text font and was much briefer
than the one my email sent out. It came from an email that sends out a
health newsletter I like to read. The newsletter often has links. It's hard
for me to believe I fell for it, but apparently I did and it looked very
different from the email that subsequently went out from my account.

In addition, sometimes it takes weeks from when the phony link is clicked
until the victim's email gets hacked.

So if you clicked the link yesterday and filled out your email and
password, please don't be fooled into thinking no harm was done just
because your email has not sent out to all your contacts yet. It may take
time. Change your email password right away.

Sorry for any harm this may have caused you.
-Sadie
