On today's ABC Radio National program, "Rear Vision", an in-depth report was broadcast, headed, "Infant formula - the White Gold of China". The report gives the background to the expansion of the artificial baby milk market, why Western multinational companies are turning to tehgrowing markets of China and India, and the contamination scandals in 2008 and 2013. To listen to this Australian current-affairs report, go to:

To digress slightly, one of the most concerning features of current advertising of these products involves labelling that they contain prebiotics and/or probiotics - totally ignoring the fact that human milk has far more of these, and as important ingredients, not additives. Sadly, parents assume that their babies and toddlers can only get these additives by being switched to the product in the can. Does anyone have direct experience of parents actually weaning children off breastmilk to switch to canned products on the basis of these claims?
