In this country (Australia), Aptamil has had a boost in sales because of demand in China, with residents and students here buying up quantities of this product and mailing them to their family and friends in China. (I have seen this at both the supermarket and post office level, muself.) Part of it is fear about local products after the contamination scandal of a while ago. Part of it is marketing of the Western product as being superior, with consumers believing it is also sperior to the milk from the mother's breasts. It is so sad when parents want to have smarter kids or healthier kids, but never even consider the food that gives the best chance for infants to reach their potential.

Consequently, at one stage this product was in short supply in some Australian supermarkets, and it became a news item when some shops placed a restriction on the number of cans per customer. Of course, while this was a legitimate ews story, it was free publicity for the product in Australia. I understand the manufacturer has increased production in Victoria, Australia.

The links Melanie sent provide information about what is happening in another location, Turkey.
