I want to thank everyone that responded to my post last week. I was at
the point of not wanting to try for awhile to give myself a chance to
reenergize. Well, you all helped me do that quickly! It is so nice to
know others are in similar positions and have made inroads.

Kristen, I loved your story, it's inspiring!

Susan asked, "Why does the pediatrician need to make the referral?" In
most cases, the families are on Medical Assistance (MA) and need a
referral from their primary care physician. I am told some ENTs don't
require a referral and am looking into their names. They do still need
to accept MA and be part of the HMO the family selected.
As for dentists and oral surgeons, it is very difficult to find any in
the area that will accept MA. I've been told by local oral surgeons
that none locally will accept MA.

Virginia asked about the infant effectively bottlefeeding. These
babies are not effectively bottlefeeding. Milk is pouring down their
chins, definitely a poor seal, gulping and signs of stress. The milk
is getting into the baby and the baby is gaining. That, apparently, is
good enough. And Mom's scabbed, bleeding nipples are not enough of a
motivator for the doctor. I do suggest to mother's that they offer to
show the doctor the damage.

Some mothers try different bottle nipples. Financial contraints are a
limitation. Not uncommonly, they are reusing the free formula bottles
from the hospital.

Thank you again, everyone, for the support and information. It is
priceless to have such a community and wealth of information
available.

Thank you listmothers for all your work.

Off to fight the good fight!
