My kids all saw the cover, as it was lying on the kitchen table (I actually bought the magazine so I could also read the article).

A little background, all 3 of my children (two boys and a girl) each weaned at some point during their 6th year and so have very clear memories of that time. They and I were also featured on ABC's 20/20 show (of which a small clip was recently shown on Nightline when this story broke) about 4 years ago regarding Extended Breastfeeding, so publicity is nothing new to them.

The 16 year old (son) said something along the lines of "He's only 3?? I breastfed longer than that, a lot longer" and further remarked that he really didn't see what the fuss was about, as people should mind their own business, and breastfeeding was good for kids, not just babies.

My 13 year old (daughter) wanted to know how the mom could walk in heels that high! And then, "Oh, he is nursing! Sweet!"

My 9 year old (son) wanted to know why the little boy was standing on a chair, "it would be more comfortable to have nummies if he was in her lap" and then went on to tell me about how much he misses having nummies and how nice it made him feel to have warm milk and cuddles when he was nursing "so long ago".

Thought you might like the perspective from older, now weaned, kids.
