To my knowledge, there is no way to prevent it.  It is related to hormones, not the supply and demand cycle.  My daughter and I know many others just nursed dry for a few months (for me, 12 to 21hormones weeks or so, between losing my milk and getting colostrum back).  Have you read "Adventures in Tandem Nursing" by Hilary Flower?  It's more or less the bible on this topic and will answer most any question you can think of.
