Breastfeeding rates in the US continue to increase:
Initiation increased by 2 percentage points: from 75.6% in 2008 to 76.9% in 2009—the largest annual increase over the previous decade.
Breastfeeding rates also increased by 2 percent at 6 months (to 47.2%) and at 12 months (to 25.5%).
But large regional disparities remain:  5 states at the bottom range between 47 and 59%;
Mississippi 47.2%; Louisiana 53.5%; West Virginia 55.1%; Alabama 57.2%; Kentucky 59.4%
And 6 more states between 60 and 69%.
