Hi,
I have had a mum come see me regarding a plan for breastfeeding and expressing for her 9 week old pre, during and post having a thyroidectomy. We have worked out a plan for expressing, storing , feeding baby and questions for her doctors, however I was wondering about what effect a thyroidectomy is going to have on her supply. I haven't been able to find any information here at work, but then again we have limited resources. I'm itching to get home and have a look at my resources, but would love to hear if anyone has had a client with the same issue. Mum and bub are breastfeeding beautifully and Mum has a really good supply. Thankfully the hospital is letting bub room in and Grandma stay as well to care for the baby. Mum has a preadmission appointment about 2 weeks before surgery so has an opportuniuty to discuss medications and get a list so we can work out how long she will need to possibly pump and dump for, if at all.
Thanks all.
Regards,
Jayne Vidler
