We have been using donor milk in our NICU for a few months. Most of the babies receiving donor milk have been our extremely premature babies, 24-26 weeks gestation. What we have been seeing is that we have very poor weight gain in these babies despite fortification and volume. I know about the lower protein content, the extrauterine challenges etc. Are those of you who have been using donor milk longer seeing the same thing? Is anyone doing the "adjustable fortification" and if so what are your results? What suggestions do you have?
Thank you,
Lisa Enger RN, IBCLC, CEIM
