Dear Lactnet Friends:

The question has been raised about SIDS because babies in s2s are lying on
their tummies. I was told to take a picture of a baby s2s with Dad in
recovery room out of a presentation because it showed the baby lying on its
tummy! A baby lying prone on a living, moving, warm chest is completely
different to a baby lying prone on a cold, lifeless mattress.

The evidence behind s2s is vast. The only possible risk could be if the baby
is lying with its face smooshed into mamma's breast. Teach parents to make
sure the baby's head is turned, that the nares are open, and that the neck
is relatively straight.

warmly,
