In addition to the additives in most infant vitamin preparations, which all
really should check on various package labeling, I've wondered what effect
supplementation prior to lactogenesis 2 might play in the development of
this and some other GI conditions? What happens to the gut of the baby that
receives an artificial infant milk (AIM) during the postpartum stay, then
receives only mom's milk once there's more volume, but may be re-exposed to
bovine protein via mom's milk? In 2008 in the USA, almost 25% of "allegedly"
breastfed infants were supplemented with an artificial infant milk before 2
days of age. Seems doubtful that all 25% were for given AIM for medical
reasons. (See the CDC's Breastfeeding Report Card 2011, United States:
Outcome Indicators at http://www.cdc.gov/breastfeeding/data/reportcard2.htm
.)

Just a thought... If there's an allergist on this list, what are your
thoughts?
