I can only tell you my personal experience. I have VERY curly hair and my hair straightened almost completely while I was breastfeeding. My family physician at the time said that hormones have a lot to do with hair construction so it made sense to him that somehow the nature of my hair would change. My hair also straightened for the brief period of time I took birth control pills in my early 20s. This straightening of my hair was only temporary. When I stopped lactating, my hair was curly again in a few months. And, yes, this is disconcerting to us curly-headed folks despite my life-long wish to have straight hair.

Subject: Can breastfeeding change how curly your hair is?

Hi!
I had a mother ask me if breastfeeding could cause her hair to be less curly than it used to be. Does anyone have any information about that?

Thanks!
